„In addition to my work as a designer, art has always fascinated me and at one point I noticed the urge to do more with my hands, away from the computer and the digital world. I wanted to create something free of any fixed rules or norms. I remembered painting has always been an important part of my childhood and school years so coming back to painting felt most natural to me. Everything is allowed, nothing has to – it's the perfect counterpart to my work as a designer and I haven't stopped since I picked up the brush again almost 10 years ago.
I tried many different styles but always ended up again on combining abstraction with figurative and portraiture expressions. It’s a colourful interplay of mixing bold brushstrokes, textures and various colour combinations and contrasts with the fascinating expression of a face or the movement or posture of a female body while always keeping a distance to any form of perfection. Portraits are most fascinating for me as they always convey an expression or feeling, something we can’t cover up. Abstraction is the experimentation with brushstrokes, textures, colour choices and intuitive compositions to create my own visual language, free of any fixed rules and norms.
Painting encourages me to trust my intuition and to let the moment take the direction. It becomes an act of embracing my own emotions, accepting the unexpected and expressing myself in a very personal way."
„Neben meiner Arbeit als Designer hat mich die Kunst schon immer fasziniert und irgendwann verspürte ich den Drang, mehr mit meinen Händen zu schaffen außerhalb der digitalen Welt. Ich wollte etwas erschaffen, das frei von festen Regeln oder Normen ist. Ich erinnerte mich, dass das Malen schon immer ein wichtiger Teil meiner Kindheit und meiner Schulzeit war, so war es für mich sehr natürlich zum Malen zurückzukehren. Alles ist erlaubt, nichts muss – es ist der perfekte Gegenpol zu meiner Arbeit als Designerin und ich habe nicht damit aufgehört, seit ich vor knapp 10 Jahren wieder den Pinsel in die Hand genommen habe.
Ich habe viele verschiedene Stile ausprobiert, bin aber letztendlich immer wieder bei der Kombination von Abstraktion mit figurativen und porträthaften Ausdrucksformen gelandet. Es ist ein sehr farbenfrohes Zusammenspiel aus der Mischung kräftiger Pinselstriche, Texturen und verschiedener Farbkombinationen und –Kontraste mit dem faszinierenden Ausdruck eines Portraits oder der Bewegung oder Haltung des weiblichen Körpers – stets in Distanz zu jeglicher Form der Perfektion. Porträts faszinieren mich immer wieder, weil sie einen Ausdruck oder ein Gefühl vermitteln, etwas, das wir nicht verbergen können. Abstraktion ist das Experimentieren mit Farben und Materialien, um eine eigene Bildsprache zu schaffen, frei von festen Regeln und Normen.
Die Malerei ermutigt mich, meiner Intuition zu vertrauen und dem Moment die Richtung geben zu lassen. Es geht darum, das Unerwartete zu akzeptieren und mich auf eine sehr persönliche Art und Weise auszudrücken."
"My paintings usually consist on many layers of colour to create a certain depth and dynamic. Large and gestural brushstrokes painted intuitively combined with small details are a strong character of each work. If you take a closer look at some of the paintings you can also recognize a strong structure on the surface created by several layers of paint, rich brushstrokes and dabs of paint.
Although my style is constantly evolving I would say the feeling and the process behind each work is constant but the way of expressing it can change over time. Therefore, some artworks are very different, even if the essence is the same. Sometimes it's quiet with a reduced color palette, sometimes it's loud, direct and very colourful. I allow myself to test different ways."
Paintings are by no means dead objects - instead they live in the eyes of those who look at it. Leaving it up to the viewer to interpret what they are seeing and what they might feel by looking at it.
"Meine Bilder bestehen meist aus vielen Farbschichten, um eine gewisse Tiefe und Dynamik zu erzeugen. Große und gestische Pinselstriche, intuitiv gemalt, kombiniert mit kleinen Details, sind ein starker Charakter jedes Werkes. Schaut man sich einige Gemälde genauer an, erkennt man auch eine starke Oberflächenstruktur, die durch mehrere Farbschichten, satte Pinselstriche und Farbtupfer entsteht.
Obwohl sich mein Stil ständig weiterentwickelt, würde ich sagen, dass das Gefühl hinter jeder Arbeit konstant ist, aber die Art, etwas auszudrücken, ändert sich. Daher sind manche Kunstwerke sehr unterschiedlich, auch wenn die Essenz der Arbeit dieselbe ist. Mal ist es still und leise mit einer reduzierter Farbpalette, mal ist es laut, direkt und sehr bunt. Ich erlaube mir, verschiedene Wege zu testen."
Gemälde leben in den Augen des Betrachters. Es bleibt der Person überlassen, zu interpretieren, was es sieht und welche Gefühle dabei geweckt werden können.
